五名无党派人士将在来临的沙巴州大选以独立人士身份上阵，并组成 “沙巴独立人士联盟" (Sabah Independent Candidate Alliance / Gagasan Calon Bebas Sabah)。
五人为资深政治工作者 - 谢秋菊 Melanie Chia Chui Ket（Likas 里卡士区上阵）；
建筑师 - 沈时丰 Sim Sie Hong （Api-Api 亚庇区上阵）；
会计师兼财务规划师 - 陈玲玲 Chin Ling Ling（Luyang 路阳区上阵）；
社会工作者 - 周尹华 Jan Chow Yee Fah （Tanjung Aru 丹绒亚路区上阵）；
以及社会企业家 - 阿末诺拉西鲁 Achmad Noorasyrul（Inanam 下南南区上阵）。
谢秋菊认为，投选和相信独立人士这样的思维对沙巴，包括亚庇人民而言，还算新颖，人们还不相信独立人士有改变沙巴的能力，并且会质疑他们在当选后是否会加入任何一个阵营。
“其实，在提名日之前，已经有许多政党前来邀我入党，如果我真的有心加入，早就已经选择其一，何必选择先以独立人士的身份上阵，然后再加入呢？而且，我相信我们团队所有成员的素质，不会轻易受到金钱诱惑而背叛选民。”
有鉴于此，她呼吁选民，要擦亮眼睛，谨慎挑选有信誉和可以真正代表人民的候选人。
′′ Yes, I know people probably don't believe we will be able to convey what they expect, and many are wondering if any of us would join the political party if winning in the chair we compete in.
′′ I myself accepted a number of offers from various political parties to join them after submitting the name as a candidate.
′′ Therefore, if I am not sincere to stand alone and serve the people as a free candidate, I will definitely join the party that promised me the best position," Melanie Chia said.
Melanie said, she herself also has responsibility for GCBS members and won't betray their hopes and trust in her.
